🍽️ Recipe: Classic Nigerian Abacha (African Salad)

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack Abacha (African salad)
  • Warm water (for soaking)
  • 2 tbsp palm oil
  • 1 tsp ground crayfish
  • 1 tsp ground pepper (optional)
  • 1 tbsp potash solution (very small amount, optional/traditional)
  • ½ cup ugba (oil bean slices)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • Garden eggs or cucumber (optional)
  • Fried fish or protein of choice (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Soak Abacha: Place shredded cassava in warm water for 5–10 minutes until softened. Drain well.
  2. Prepare sauce: Mix palm oil with a small amount of potash solution until it thickens slightly (optional step).
  3. Season: Add crayfish, pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Combine: Add softened abacha and mix evenly.
